  • Wayside School - The plot of the episode is similar to Maurecia's chapter in the first book of the Wayside School series of books, Sideways Stories from Wayside School.
  • SpongeBob SquarePants - The deformed Crimson Chin popsicle seen at the start of the episode is a reference to the real-life SpongeBob SquarePants Popsicle, which was infamous for being deformed in the heat and not coming out the way it should, by either having wrong eye placements or having an eye missing.
